I wrote [here](https://discuss.criticalfallibilism.com/t/introduction-to-critical-fallibilism/1920/6) about whether there is an ultimate goal/value. Rand thinks there is an ultimate value, which is life. Still you would need to break it up into sub-goals to make progress. You would want to maximize this ultimate goal, which requires a mix of the sub-goals as binary goals, not to maximize any of them.
