Oh another piece of culture context is the COVID pandemic. Basically all entry level positions have too few applicants and are desperate to find anyone they can hire (without raising wages a ton, only a bit). Tons of places are understaffed.

I’ve barely looked at the news but this looks bad.

Russia is allegedly bussing Ukranian orphans out in the dark of night and allegedly has plans to destroy the busses, murder the children, and blame Ukraine.
how bad can Russia thing get?
Thank you for your answers. It does makes sense that he was simply triggered, by hearing her voicemail, for racist reasons. That sounds totally plausible and probable given the context. My “cultural IQ” for my own culture (on a national level) is a bit low I would say. I suppose a white guy being mean to a black woman, without a clear reason, and in the American south, should have been a major hint.
I totally failed to consider just how picky he is being about this particular off-script thing (this did not occur to me to think about). It seems clear to me after you point it out, and after a bit of consideration, just how many slightly unusual social things almost everyone accepts regularly without being triggered. So with that in mind, his response is pretty aggressive and anti-social.
I also appreciate your suggestion about looking up the job the in question. That is another thing I missed and did not occur to me. Its seems my intuitive brainstorming capacity on this question was pretty low. My guess is that I would do much better on other topics, like what to have for dinner. I have not practiced brainstorming much yet but that is an exercise I do plan to try with some other topics.
I see what you mean about the missing logic in my second scenario too. Actions guided by professionalism would have a totally different character. At this point I am thinking that bigotry is the explanation for the hostility in his response. I have some deeper confusions about this whole topic but I think I jumped the gun on this question without enough consideration. In general race/racism questions, are not something I have rationally discussed with anyone. For that reason, I have been curious since you posted that question what people with some CF perspective would answer about this. I do have a similar curiosity about a bunch of the other topics you have posted, which received little or no feedback. And for additional context, I do think that all your posts have value because you posted them.
A very bad possible out come would be a full scale invasion with tens of thousands of soldiers fighting on each side. Many thousands of soldiers and civilians could die and millions could be plunged into poverty. This could also be seriously detrimental to other Europeans who rely on natural resources from Russia but will no longer have access due to sanctions.
Feel free to say stuff about them.
Long.
Note that the part flaming Trump is unfair. I looked at Trump’s actual comments and, contrary to various media portrayals, they were OK, not pro-Putin. Other right-wingers complained about at the link, like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, really are awful.
Also, just generally, I do not vouch for the accuracy of all the information I’m sharing about the Ukraine war. I dislike and distrust the mainstream media, and I think there’s value in sharing some alternatives that look reasonably OK (most of which I have some prior familiarity with), but I’m not fact checking them.
EDIT: Here’s the link to what Trump actually said:
After signaling to Vladimir Putin, that he would be okay with a quote “minor incursion” quote into the Ukraine, Biden is trying to blame the consequences of that invasion, which include high gas prices, on oil companies.
wtf? I searched to make sure that’s real. The MSM covered it, e.g.:
Frontpage Mag has more articles (I skimmed):
