@Elliot, if I’m understanding this correctly you’re talking about when the ideas succeed independently but not together? Otherwise aim the criticism at the failing sub-goals, not the group.

Yes. In general, if A fails, you should criticize A rather than A&B&C. You should usually aim criticism at the more narrow thing it applies to.
