Our society isn’t very good at dealing with stalkers.
What is society good at? Preventing violence is one I can think of.
This looks like a problem of irrationality. But so is the problem of violence. Why is one problem dealt with better than the other? Is it because people are more rational when it comes to violence or the institutions that deal with the problem of violence are better/ have more knowledge?
There’s lots of discussion of the lawsuit against Blizzard recently.
People act surprised but think about it this way: Blizzard employees are a bunch of the same people you went to high school or college with. Who else would they be? Those are the people who exist. Some change and get way more professional when they get hired, but most don’t. (A lot of people change to superficially act more professional in a few ways when they get hired, but underneath they’re still jerks who like to party.)
Blizzard not the only one with a hostile work environment:

People ask their online followers not to harass someone all the time. It’s very normal.
There’s a forum related to Slate Star Codex. I was unable to find anything on the site saying what kind of forum it was, and had to google the name to find an old reddit thread announcing it. I skimmed the post titles and it looks heavily skewed towards politics with no philosophy discussion.
