An update:
Hmm. It says I haven’t posted in the last 10 days. This is the longest break I’ve had so far. I’ll brainstorm why that is later.
Over the past 10 days I have more-or-less kept up with writing (missed three days out of those).
When it comes to my writing I think I’m going to try and share more of the writing I do daily (typically when I share on CF, I write with the intention that I will be sharing this on CF). I saw in the Write How You Speak forum post how you mentioned people not getting feedback over stuff they’ve read:
From what I remember you’ve mentioned similar stuff elsewhere, but this just reminded me of it.
Most of how I do my daily writing is go through previously highlighted quotes/passages from books using the readwise app and write down any thoughts I have because of the quote/passage. There are some things I write down that are quite personal at times, but other times I’m just writing down my understanding of the quotes/passages. I probably have misunderstandings of some of the stuff, so I think I’ll try and share more of those writings.
Also during these past 10 days I did do some grammar stuff though I didn’t share anything at the time. Some possible reasons:
- I do most of my CF assignments on a note-taking app called Obsidian. I don’t (most of the time at least) do the assignment right here on the forum. Sometimes I’m too tired (or rushed on time) to transfer/format the assignments from Obsidian to the forum.
- Some of the stuff I did wasn’t complete, but I intended to complete them at a later time and then post about it. I did complete them, though much later than intended. However, then I felt bad about posting because I felt like I didn’t do enough. So the plan then changed to do more stuff and then post. However, doing more stuff delayed posting.
- Started playing a new game (new to me at least) called Persona 5 Royal. I now have a healthy balance of playing it, but initially when I started I would just keep playing it. It would go something like this: wake-up and get ready like normal, play Persona for a little bit before doing other stuff, that little bit turned into a lot, I now have just enough time to write for a little and then go to work. Tbh, I did this with Baba too initially. I think I was even more into it with Baba because it was assigned for me to play.
- Overall I feel much better after fully quitting caffeine (the biggest benefit for me so far is my eyes are less dry and my contacts feel much better). However, I have noticed that I am much more sensitive to not getting enough sleep. Before, I could kind of function on 6 hours of sleep with some coffee and get some mentally demanding stuff done. Now its just a pain to do anything mentally demanding. Also, previously 6 hours of sleep was fine here and there (multiple days in a row were a problem). Now even one day of not enough sleep messes me up in future days. Overall its fine. I just need to work out a work schedule where I don’t have to do shifts where I sleep little (which I could always manage for myself, I just never took it seriously to actually do it).
- Busy with work + sleeping more after quitting caffeine not leaving me much time.
- I also think part of me is tired of doing this grammar stuff leading me to procrastinate on it.
What I have done so far from your Text Analysis playlist:
- Learn grammar trees (they’re better than sentence diagrams)
- I learned how to do grammar trees from this video, did the trees in this video, and took notes on the video.
- I previously posted about this video.
- Learn to analyze writing (with grammar trees)
- I watched the video, tree’d the sentence (tried to), and took notes.
- I previously posted about this video.
- Philosopher breaks down tough sentence | Learn how to do it
- I watched this video, attempted the tree, and primarily took notes on it. I forget if I was too tired or if it was too hard (probably a mix of both) but I didn’t really tree much and focused on taking notes on the video and seeing your process.
- I did mention just watching this video before in a previous post.
- I’ll share my notes in a different post.
- Demonstrating a type of grammar analysis (dependency trees)
- Same as the above video, I primarily took notes for this one. Will share in another post.
- Practice Grammar with Harry Potter Sentences
- Watched the video and tree’d the sentences. Did this previously over multiple posts.
- Practicing Core Grammar Structure (philosophy prerequisite)
- Watched this today. Took notes on it. Wasn’t much for me to do exactly. I’ll share them in another post.
- Sentence Grammar Tree Practice with a Peter Singer Article
- Watched this today, took notes on it, and tree’d both the sentences. I’ll share them in another post.
What I haven’t done so far:
- Philosopher Does Analysis (Paragraph Tree)
- Philosophical Perspective: Complexity in a Regular Paragraph
- Philosophical analysis of Steven Pinker passage | Everything explained from grammar to arguments
- Writing Critique for “Fintech Community Banking”
Should I go through these last four videos? They seem less related to sentence trees/sentence grammar.
