How far did you get into it? I got to episode 10 and haven’t watched since (just got busy and stuff).

From wikipedia:

It is a common misconception that microwave ovens heat food at a special resonance of water molecules in the food. Instead, all polar molecules participate,

I think that debunking may be misleading. Claude says:

So the Wikipedia correction is technically right — it’s not just water — but in practice water is doing the vast majority of the absorbing for the vast majority of foods, just not because of a resonance.

Been very busy moving back into my home. Finally, got it to a place where I feel like I can get back into a routine instead of spending the whole day just catching up with putting stuff back and cleaning.

So far I’ve felt fine being back at home. Haven’t immediately felt worse or anything. We had someone come out and test for mold and stuff in the air (for insurance) and the mold readings were good apparently. So that’s nice. Big issue was a lot of dust and stuff in the house still. We paid the contractor doing our re-construction to clean it up but they did a terrible job with most of the cleaning. Dust everywhere. My cat jumped on our new kitchen countertop and just had a layer of dust on her coat. That was lame. They did do a good job on cleaning out our air vents though and I noticed I don’t get sick from being under the home AC anymore. It hasn’t irritated me.

Along with that I grabbed this air purifier: Amazon.com: AirFanta 3Pro, Air purifer for house up to 3100ft2, CADR super large 413cfm, collapsible and portable, can be packed into a 20" suitcase. : Home & Kitchen . Kinda recommended by this video I watched on air purifiers: Most HEPA Air Purifiers Are A SCAM (There’s A Better Option). I say kinda because the ones recommended in the video and the brand he talks about isn’t this one, but he does recommend it in his description and it was more affordable than the other options. I’m unsure how much they’ve helped. Main thing I noticed is how much cat hair they’ve picked up. I think I’m a bit sensitive to it, so it’s helped..

Oh yeah, I watched that video a while ago but I believe the main claim was something along the lines of regular hepas suck because of the quantity of air purified. You can getter better results using MERV filters and bigger fans apparently just because of the quantity of air being purified. smth like that.

I started playing a bit of this game called Turing Complete on Steam since it uses logic gates and stuff like that. I think it goes quite far and gets into proper computing stuff.

I played it when we first did logic stuff and did ok at the beginning. Now I’m struggling.

I want to do some logic stuff. Should I start with reviewing the logical operators and stuff?

Sure that’d work or I assume the game will teach you stuff so you could just try it however the game wants you to.

Didn’t watch your video, but I know there are expensive air purifier brands and from what I understand they aren’t really special and aren’t worth paying a lot extra for. You can get hepa at a reasonable price per amount of air flow from costco though FYI. I don’t know how big a deal hepa is, but it doesn’t have to cost a lot extra like some do.

Looks like you got 3100 sq ft per hour for $165 and costco currently has 2420 sq ft per hour for $199 with hepa, so a noticeable price difference but not a huge difference, and it’s actually filter replacement costs that can matter more than initial cost, but I didn’t check those prices. Replacement filters might cost about the same percentage as the new price for both models, but I don’t actually know. Costco has this stuff on sale periodically so you can buy replacement filters when there are sales. Some amazon stuff has sales but not others and the timing can be more variable so idk there.

Noise also matters – if you aren’t running it at max power because its too noisy then you lose a lot of air flow.

Compare with e.g. https://www.iqair.com/products/air-purifiers/healthpro-plus?Model=XE which costs $1200 for 1125 sq ft!

Thought about something that would be fun to do and I thought it would be neat to actually read all your stuff. Mainly the more official stuff. So while I may do it at some point, I’m not trying to read all of curi.us or your old email stuff.

I did that with Miss Rands stuff and remembered enjoying just finishing stuff. Maybe there’s some problem with that kind of thing (like just finishing stuff to finish it), but it’s better than not doing anything.

I’m adding stuff to a spreadsheet to keep track of what I read.

I just started making it. I’ll share it after I put in the stuff I’ve read so far and planning to read soon (putting everything in right now seems like a waste of time).

Came across this game:

I played a little bit of it so far (just like the first two stages or so) and liked it. Its a programming game. From what I understand so far you write code to get this little farmer robot to do stuff and each stage has different objectives of what you need the farmer robot to do.

I’ve played it some. If you like it, try out Replicube and some Zachtronics. I’ve played TIS-100 which is the most programmy of the Zachtronics games.

I tried to play it before but I found it confusing to even start.

Do you need a programming background to play? Like is it intended for someone with a background in programming?

I skimmed a bit of the manual but I got confused on where to even start.

I could already program in Assembly, it helps a lot but I don’t think it’s necessary. I was confused too about moving data between the cells since that’s not like regular programming. I can help you figure out how to play.

Something I thought was interesting a coworker shared a while back that I remembered:

One of my younger coworkers (17/18 at the time) was telling me about their day and stuff. She was just mentioning how her parents allowed her boyfriend and her to share a bed together, but her boyfriends parents did not. She then said that she thought her parents were in the wrong and her boyfriends parents were right about this issue.

I remembered this because a new coworker of mine (relatively new ig) shared the same sentiment about her boyfriends parents and her own parents.

I thought it was interesting to me that these girls clearly wanted to sleep in the same bed as their boyfriends, yet thought it was appropriate when parents split them up (to an extent, the girls found it annoying still but appropriate). Like my new coworker even commented that whenever she becomes a parent in the future she won’t let her future son/daughter sleep in the same bed as their partner. Kinda odd.

I always thought those kinds of thoughts would generally develop when someone becomes a parent and as a teen you would think parents are in the wrong for not allowing something as “simple” as sharing a bed with your partner, but both these girls developed these thoughts quite young. Interesting.

I’ve been working on fixing my sleep schedule the past few days and it’s been going fine. Two issues:

1.) There’s a lot of energy in my house at night which makes it hard to go to sleep. Someone in my family will want to have a conversation. Someone will be going around cleaning. Someone else may be cooking. Trying to go against that is hard. Oh yeah. I’m trying to be in bed by 10 30 at the latest to hopefully asleep by 11 and I’m getting up at 7. Speaking of getting up:

2.) maybe because I’m not used to getting up at 7? the past four days I’ve felt quite tired and off after waking up even though my quantity of sleep is more/about the same. hell, i think i felt better in the past on days where i slept at like 2 waking up at 8.

i do think one issue is waking up from an alarm is too jarring and i feel off cause of it? but i’m not too sure. maybe i could try waking up the next few days without an alarm and see if i feel better? also could just be a readjusting thing

Read a few CF short articles. Will share my progress on the spreadsheet soon. I read:

yes changing your sleep cycle affects your body. you have to get used to it. it’s not just number of hours of sleep that matters.

yeah. alarms can wake you up at the wrong part of your sleep cycle when you wouldn’t wake up naturally.

It’s been a week since I started trying to get my sleep in order. The past two days I’ve felt pretty good upon waking up. I think part me of is starting to get used to it. I also moved my alarm to go off 15 minutes after my wake up time and I think that has been a big help (I’ve always been able to get up at a consistent time without an alarm for the most part).

Outside of that I watched this video from Bryan Johnson: How I FIXED My Terrible Sleep - 10 Habits and have been trying to use the advice (why I started trying to get consistent with my sleep). I watched it because I’m trying to be better about accepting sleep as important and that not getting enough/good quality sleep is a big problem in my life.

His 10 habits:

1.) identify yourself as a professional sleeper

2.)consistent bedtime

3.) wind-down routine

4.) eat early

5.)avoid stimulants

6.) regulate evening light

7.) optimize temperature for sleep

8.) have a peaceful sleep environment

9.) get morning light

10.) gather data

I’ve been doing the 1st, 2nd, and 4th habit fairly well. I’ve avoided stimulants for a while now so that’s no real concern. The other stuff I’m trying to figure out.

My sleeping has been going pretty good. I have felt much much better these past three days and I hope that continues.

I recently started my summer class. It’s called Philosophy of Law. I’m going to create a topic for some of the stuff I’ve covered in that class. I like it a lot so far. One issue I’ve noticed is how difficult it is for me to read some of the stuff. I think you’ve mentioned how people find it a harder to read Popper as opposed to Rand for example. I can relate to that. The very little bits of Popper I read in the past were difficult for me to read/understand. I think that plays a part in why I haven’t read much of him. Your stuff is easy to read. Miss Rands stuff is easy to read. Popper isn’t and neither is some of this older stuff I have to read. I’m reading over the Federalist Papers and other stuff and its hard to read.

Idk. I think I’ve thought my reading skill is fine (and compared to maybe an “average” person its probably better), but then I thought that during the time the Federalist papers were written I doubt they struggled to read. But I’m still unsure on something:

Is having trouble reading Popper and these Federalist Papers a reading skill kind of issue or a knowledge issue? I think I’ve been assuming the reason I struggle with Popper is because he’s using vocabulary and other stuff that I’m unfamiliar with. Now I’m a bit unsure.

Any advice? Just read more hard stuff? I will say I’ve been working on reading (some of) the Federalist Papers and other stuff for the past week and I seem to be getting more comfortable with it.

Getting a peaceful sleep environment is hard. Too much energy in my house at night, good and bad. The bad energy that happens makes me want to move out, but too expensive. Hmm. After I get this sleep stuff in order, I should try and get my finances in order. Not in debt or anything, but definitely not using it the best way.

For regulating my evening light, I’m just going to keep it simple and use my FL-41 glasses to block out some blue and green light. The red lens glasses I see everywhere would be hard to use because I still need to work around when I would want to start regulating some evening light and also drive back home from work. Plus they’re expensive (though I did look at the “good” options).

Getting morning light is something I’m working on in steps. I have an alexa outlet connected to a lamp that turns on in the morning. One issue I have is using an eye mask at night. It still blocks out light by morning and so I don’t get an effect where light wakes me up. More so I get it after waking up. I’m trying to black out my room, so I don’t need an eye mask. Then, eventually, I want to try one of those sunrise alarm clocks from Phillip.

But overall, sleep has been going fine. I’ve been having a more-or-less consistent bed time (the occasional very late shift until 10 messes that up). I’m figuring out a better wind-down routine, but I’m fine for now (I just brush teeth and shower, not really winding down ig). Eating early has been going well. I’ll now have dinner at work so I don’t have to eat late when I come back home. I’ve been using a tower fan to help me cool this summer and its been working. Hasn’t gotten terribly hot where I live so its been fine. Our AC works, but my mom turns it off quite often. Tower fan has been consistent.

My spreadsheet:

It should have all the the articles on your CF website.

I organized them the way they’re organized on there.

I’ve checked off some stuff I’ve recently read, but I know some stuff on there I’ve read before that I haven’t checked off yet.
