In the first sentence, it says, “Besides ignoring errors, people also go wrong by trying to worry about every little maybe-error in unreasonable ways.” So there could be important errors but also maybe-errors? You can focus too much on maybe-errors and too little on actual errors? That sounds like something important to get right. Maybe people can build a good intuition without ever studying philosophy or let alone CF, but not everyone can build that. That imo sounds like an important subject to get down. Wouldnt you want to know if youre focusing on an error or not? When I work on a skill, I wonder if Im being too perfectionist or too resistant to acknowledging errors. It would be nice to know if im doing one or the other.
A maybe-error seems like a small error. It’s an error that probably fails at a goal but not an important goal or the goal.
What does it mean to, “worry about every little maybe-error in unreasonable ways?” It seems that people who go through perfectionism dont even know if theyre worrying about an actual error. What’s an unreasonable way to worry about a maybe-error?
It’s hard to tell which error is important before you understand the issue well. I think if you understand the issue well then you can know what’s important. I think you can tell whats an error or not. You have to understand the issue well to know what’s important. What’s important tho? Errors? What else?
The quote says you have to learn. To learn something you gotta be able to tell what’s an error or not.
The quoted sentence starts with, “But.” That seems to mean it’s connected to the previous sentence. I think to understand an issue well, you have to learn about things you already don’t know well. You could tell what’s important when you understand an issue well, but you have to learn about things you dont understand well.
“Before” means the time that takes place when you don’t know the solution to a problem/error. When you don’t know the solution to a problem/error, you don’t know the impact that the solution will make.
I think when you know the solution to a problem/error, there’s no errors that happen. I think no errors means when your solution doesn’t fail at solving the problem. Idk for sure about this. Like when you know your solution to your problem/error then I think you fix your error.
Before you know your solution, you don’t know what impact your solution will make? I don’t think I know what impact means, but I think it’s related to solving the problem. Like, maybe there’s a downside and another error happens and your problem isn’t solved? Maybe
I think answering the questions above are the impacts that your solution will have before you know the solution to your problem/error.
The first question asks what will go wrong if you ignore the issue. Those are like costs if you ignore an issue. You don’t know the impact your solution will have because you don’t know the wrong from ignoring the issue.
When you answer the second question, “What benefits will you get from this solution,” you figure out what are the upsides to your solution. Idk how this relates to knowing the impacts of your solution. At least not before finding the solution to the problem/error. I think I kind of see it.
I think the third question is learning about the impact your solution will make. You know if it’s gonna work and if you’re gonnna need to come up with a back up. I think you don’t know yet if you’re solution is gonna have the impact of solving your problem. If it’s gonna even work.
The last sentence talking about knowing the results in retrospect tells me that you don’t know the impact of your solution. If you solved your problem/error with a solution, I think you know the solution to those. You know the solution cuz you know the impact it has. You know if it’s going to even work. You know if the solution has benefits. You’ll know how bad the issue is if you ignore it.
“This” means my reply. My reply and future replies would be easier to read if i did something.
That something is quoting each sentence before the paragraph talking about it. Idk too much about “before the paragraph.” I think that’s referring to each part of the paragraph like the sentences.
Since I was talking about sentences in the reply and we’re talking about quoting sentences to make it easier to read. I think this is how it would be easier to read:
I bet it can take a while depending on your situation. Having things under control sounds good. In a way i feel scattered brain because I treat every error like an important one and it’s hard to tell if I can move on to the next thing.
It’s kinda nuts how many people in the US or the world probably dont deal with things like they have it under contol. Theyre not even aware of the problem. Like, theyre barely aware. In a way, being bad at solving easy problems is like a disease. Disease sounds extreme, but it seems it can really hold you back in life.
Second sentence:
“this process” is I think learning to deal with easy problems cheaply.
I think the errors are overwhelming cuz theres so many of them. They havent automatically figured out a way to deal with them cheaply. Like they havent done enough in life for their subconscious to pick up on solving easy problems cheaply. I think theyre overwhelmed by errors now because theyre probably doing something really hard in life where theyre making minor errors but also some big ones.
Last clause of the second sentence:
“which” is referring to which error. The errors theyre being overwhelmed by.
Also, I didnt know there were errors to set aside. The fact that there is sounds important. I think if the process is to learn to deal with minor errors cheaply, then youre gonna want to set aside the big errors for now. At least for a bit so you can learn to deal with the minor errors cheaply.
Edit: Mb i wanted to post this reply in my discussion thread
