Project Summary:

This is a project about making a reply and looking for errors in my writing. I want to look for stuff that doesnt make sense so I can focus on improving it later.

Goal:

Look for errors in each sentence of a reply. Find parts that dont make sense.

Success criteria (& optional failure criteria):

• Find parts of speech that dont make sense
• Find phrases that dont make sense
• Find what’s hard to put into words

Big picture goal, why you want to do this, or CF relevance:

Get more writing practice to write more philosophy

Make a reply on any topic, then come to this thread to quote any errors.

Here’s a quote im gonna work on from How I Write a Lot :

I don’t get percentiles fully and Im also reading this quote like if youre better yesterday than today then thats not better for u today.

Im gonna look up percentiles rq…Ok, I just looked up a rq gemini description of what a percentile is. So if you have a 50th percentile work from a few years ago then that’s better than 50 percent of your work in that area but also worse than 50 percent of work.

Ok, now I see I missed the phrase “from now” meaning in the future. So hoepfully your 50 percentile stuff in the future is better than your 90 percentile work from today

Is there a better word than “like” here? I’m thinking i could find a better word but I think the problem is my use of “this” before “quote.” I didnt want to be repetitive and use “this” again after “like”. I ended up leaving the word “like” by itself to describe the rest of the words in the sentence. I think I could get better at using more definite determiners like “the.” I think the audience probably wouldve understood what quote I was referring to.

I think another thing that could help is when I rephrase a quote in my own words, I could use single quotes(?) or use a colon to introduce it.

Some concepts Im thinking could use work are paraphrasing, colons, indefinite/definite articles, words like “this,” and words like “like.”

This is me finding parts of speech that dont make sense(success criteria). It does make sense to let the reader know what quote im talking about. But it doesn’t help to prevent repetitiveness in the sentence.

I think I could argue the other success criteria but i think I should be clearer about them. I’m thinking to get any one criteria not all of them.

I think finding words that I could improve on could be a success criteria. Like, find words that can be phrased better. When I asked if there’s a better word than “like,” that counts as finding a word that can be phrased better.

I think another success criteria could be: find potential reasons why I wrote a certain word or phrase. I may not find exactly why i wrote a certain word or phrase but I can get some good ideas about it.
