Made this topic to talk about the game Celeste. Mostly just want to document stuff as I play the game.
Recently started playing the modded celeste map Strawberry Jam. I haven’t got too far into it but one thing I like is the tutorials.
I feel like regular Celeste is, for the most part, a figure out yourself kind of game (though to be fair there isn’t much to figure out). In Strawberry Jam, however, their are tutorial maps you can do with detailed explanations on game mechanics. I really like that.
I also liked being able to an easy map for the first time that I never saw before. I kinda thought when replaying some of the easier celeste chapters that I was “only” able to do them because of muscle memory or whatever. It was nice to play an easy map and more-or-less breeze through it. Gave me some confidence.
Thanks! I’ll watch those soon (I actually watched like 10 minutes of the first one and then forgot about it).
I read a comment the other day that said something like, “What makes Celeste speedruns different is that they really rely on just getting really good at the core mechanics of Celeste. There’s not too much reliance on glitches and stuff like that.” I think that’s kinda neat.
Hmm. This does make it sound as if top players in other games aren’t good at core mechanics of their games. I don’t think that would be true.
I recently installed Speedrun Tool Modding Tool for Celeste | Celeste Modding Tools . It’s been very very helpful in practicing some stuff. One of the later stages I was only really struggling with the end and just needed to practice it.
Only downside I kind of have with it is my death counter. I liked it as a kind of honest portrayal about the effort(?) I’ve put into the game, but with save states and stuff it won’t be that accurate anymore. It’s whatever. I prefer being able to practice various parts.
I’m almost close to beating the final chapter of Celeste. I’ve been using a walkthrough to guide me on some parts and I noticed that the screen(?)/section after the one I’m doing right now is the final one for the last chapter. So that’s very cool.
So far I’ve put in 72 hours into the game. I think probably around ~20 hours have probably just gone to the last chapter.
I also came across this video recently: Celeste, but it’s ALL of Hollow Knight.
It lead me to this mod: Crossover Collab Mod for Celeste | Celeste Mods .
Its a crossover mod using a bunch of games. The Hollow Knight one was a bit hard so I put that on pause for now, but I did beat the Dadish map (never played Dadish, just saw it was rated easy).
I got 15 hearts and just beat the first section of Core B. I previously beat the first 2 sections of Farewell. Avoiding hints.
I beat Core B and got my first golden strawberry and beat the first C side.
Nice! My first, and only so far, golden strawberry was on the first chapter. I almost did 1b and chapter 2.
I beat 1c-6c. I’m currently on 7c on the last section. I took a break from the last section of ch.9 to do other things cause I was getting annoyed (I beat 5c and 6c yesterday).
Oh yeah, I also beat the PICO-8 version of Celeste yesterday.
i just beat 7c. yay
I beat 2c and 4c, and I got to 175 strawberries by getting the second golden strawberry from Forsaken City.
i just beat 8c. all c sides done. all i have left is the last part of farewell, two achievements, and the golden strawberries.
im probably gonna take my take my time on the golden. mainly for the farewell one. i think i can get all of them except farewell in a reasonable amount of time.
where’d you get your first golden?
I got both goldens from 1a
3c I failed the first room a bit. Haven’t tried a lot.
I failed the first room of 5c so many times. I can get onto the last block but once it raises up I can’t make the final jump. I’ve managed to jump off before it was all the way up several times but I still just hit the barrier and die. I also tried skipping the last block and jumping from the second to last block but I could never get far enough to grab the final wall. I don’t want a hint though.
I beat 6c in 299 deaths which I think is pretty good.
7c I beat the first 2 rooms pretty quickly and got the to last cloud in the last room 5+ times but I haven’t yet gotten to the final spring right after that cloud.
I beat 7c in 998 deaths. No save states. Still have 3c and 5c left.
Did you get the winged golden? ;o
I don’t like 3c (or, tbh, much of chapter 3 I hate figuring out the timing of the dust bunnies). Most of my deaths came from the final room (its because of that room I got save states to practice it) and the first room. I beat it in 1112 deaths.
Same. Of my 1144 deaths, around ~800 are for that room alone.
I beat it in 241 deaths. I really liked it. I think chapter 6 has some of my least favorite mechanics, but I never found the chapters too too hard (I mainly hate the bumpers(?)), I haven’t learned how to be consistent with them).
Nice! I beat it in 847 deaths. Honestly it was one of the more enjoyable c-sides. Which, I think, made it feel easier to me. It just felt very smooth to play.
I’ve made it about ~halfway through farewells last screen. I’ve gotten fairly consistent at it.
Yes
I beat 3c in 340 deaths plus almost 200 more when testing the first room previously. The first room wasn’t that bad once I started doing a repeated diagonal up-right dash strategy. And I found the final room reasonable. I tested the timing of jumping on Oshiro at the start of the room a bunch so I didn’t need many tries for the end of the level. And finding a consistent timing to get past the first section wasn’t that hard.
